Theological Question For The Day

Here is a statement:

You see without the actual transmission of the Savior’s blood onto the heart of the sinner there is no remission of sin.

What do you think?

Question: Who on earth said this? Did you get this in a class at seminary? Egad. No one can verify an "actual" experience of Jesus' blood touching our "actual" heart. Therefore it seems that the core of this statement tells us that none of us has experienced remission of sin.

Hebrews 10:15-18 says otherwise: "And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds," he also adds, "I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more." Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

And that's what I think.

To Egad or Not to Egad?

is it pointing to this text?

Hebrews 9:22-24 22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. 23 It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

If that is the case then a little nuance on word choice would fix PG's concerns

Is the quote trying to get after the 'imputation of righteousness' from our doctrine of justification?

It sounds to me like the quote is trying to preach the need for our hearts to be made clean by being 'washed in the blood'--through faith in Christ's atoning death to save us from sin.

Is this an inelegant statement on blood atonement and our imputation of Christ's righteousness on our behalf?

Seems like the Catholics would affirm that you have to have an actual transmission of the saviors blood to the stomach.

The heart is probably optional...

The Saviors blood is transmitted into the heart of the sinner through Holy Communion since the body and blood of Christ is really present in the elements we eat (John 6:48-58) when we properly discern the elements.

And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins." Matt. 26:27-28
